Barbara Linder is known throughout the York community for her commitment to various local organizations. She is a graduate of the Baldwin School, Bradford Junior College and the University of Wisconsin. Inspired by her parents’ philanthropy and a lifelong interest in the performing arts, Mrs. Linder has acted as a volunteer for multiple organizations, including: Committee of the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Junior League, the York Hospital Auxiliary, the York Health Foundation Board and Chair of the Donor Relations Committee, the Women’s Auxiliary of York College, the Women’s Giving Circle of York, the Vestry of the Episcopal Church of Saint John the Baptist and as a member of P.E.O.
Married to Richard Linder in 1959, Barbara moved to Illinois and then back to the Philadelphia area before settling in York in 1974. |

Mrs. Linder's struggle with and eventual triumph over alcoholism has given her profound perspective on life. To her, each new day is a gift and an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. Mrs. Linder's enthusiastic support of both the YSOA and YCLC missions is a natural extension of her desire to improve the lives of others in her home community.
“My journey has been a rich tapestry,” stated Barbara Linder. “The YSO and YCLC have a wonderful impact on our community. I am blessed to have the opportunity to support this partnership.”
“I've known Barb for many years. I admire her spirit in all she does and her commitment to this community,” said Henry Nixon, executive director of York Symphony Orchestra. “Plus, she's a lot of fun to be with -- bright and sparkling.”
In lieu of an award and as a tribute to the Mrs. Linder, the YSOA and YCLC will donate $250 worth of new books to the Wellspan Community Health Center.
